Stumbling upon photo opportunities

You never know when you may come across an interesting subject to photograph. I was out and about in a garden area checking out flowers or trees to shoot when I came across this rusty old spigot handle. The texture of the corroded metal and the shapes made for one of the more eye catching photos taken that day.

Mysterious marble ball

Like the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, I stumbled upon this marble ball just sitting there in a totally incongruous environment.

A little bit of Texas

I enjoy this image of a rural Texas boutique with its color contrast between the cool tone of the shaded wall and the sunlit orange roof tiles. Adding visual interest is the grouping of shapes - the circular pot, the square window and the angular shape of the roof.

Futuristic cityscape?

This shot reminds me of the futuristic-retro cityscapes from the classic science fiction film Metropolis directed by Fritz Lang. In reality it was a case of antique motor oil bottles on display at a car show. But viewed at just the right angle the wire basket of metal topped, glass containers appears to be something much more than what it really is.

Angelic figure

Strolling through a local cemetery late one Fall afternoon I photographed this beautiful angel statue with the sun blasting through over its shoulder creating a rather heavenly effect.

Volume

For somewhat obvious reasons, this close up of the pick ups and pick guard of a Fender Stratocaster is titled "Volume". You never know when it might get loud.

V8 Ford Rat Rod

A black and white detail photo of the louvered hood of a rust coated 1930's Ford V8 coupe.
I believe it was Chuck Berry who said, "nothin' will out run my V8 Ford". This V8 is still running - rust and all.

Wall, windows and bricks

Originally shot in color, I converted to black and white and increased the contrast to bring out the texture of the cement blocks. I like the image for the texture as well as the shadows and for the mystery of the bricked up windows and doorway. No way in and no way out!

Headlight and Spring

A close up shot of the front fender and suspension of a nicely restored hot rod. The original black and white image appeared somewhat stark so I added a filter to warm up the image. The horizontals, diagonals and circles keep the eye moving around the image.

Yellow Monolith

A screaming yellow paint job and the long rear deck of a beautifully restored 1966 Dodge Charger stands like a monolithic structure against a blue sky. 1966 was the first year for this classic muscle car. It is always great to see one still out there and in such great condition.
